Thousands of
schoolchildren have boarded the Jenny Wren since it was
launched over 35 years ago, perhaps even your parents
or grand parents came with their schools and were given
a Jenny Wren badge like this.
In order to obtain one of these badges, they had to sing
on the return journey through the Maida Hill tunnel. The
very first badges where green on a yellow background.
Ask your family if they still have on of these early badges,
and if they can be parted from it, you can exchange it
for a free Jenny Wren trip for yourself. We recently heard
of a Royal Navy Commander who still proudly owns the Jenny
Wren badge he was given as a boy. Apart from the tunnel,
250 metres long, the Jenny Wren also passes through a
lock in which the boat rises 2.5 metres.
This is how a lock works.

The crew aboard the Jenny Wren give a commentary, and
you are able to ask them any of your questions. We also
have a work sheet, which you can complete on your journey.
We regularly receive pictures of the Jenny Wren like these,
and if you send us a nice one, we will display it on our
web site. Children’s
